Job Summary
Surgical Tech Extern will gain hands-on OR experience while completing the second half of a Surgical Technology program and clinical rotation. Under supervision, the extern assists with preparatory, scrubbing and related services for surgical cases, maintains aseptic technique, transfers and positions patients/equipment, and supports sterile field maintenance and room setup; may assist with instrument handling, gowning/gloving, and notifying staff of equipment issues; requires high school diploma or GED and current enrollment in surgical tech program with completion of first half, plus BLS on hire.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology and must have completed the first half of the Surgical Technology program required
- Recommendation by the instructor preferred
- BLS required upon hire – will obtain during orientation if needed
- Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques
- Knowledge of operating room equipment
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency
