Anticipate surgical team needs, obtain instrumentation and supplies, and pass instruments to the surgeon and assistant during procedures. Handle all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment throughout the case, then assist with terminal cleaning and room preparation for the next surgery. Begin cleaning the back table and preparing instruments for sterilization as the circulator prepares the patient to leave, placing instruments back in trays for transport to SPD. Adhere strictly to policy and procedures including count policies, universal protocols, and medication labeling. Work with students and inexperienced staff to demonstrate correct methods for instrument passing and retrieval.
