Surgical Scheduler

Job Summary
Schedule surgical procedures, gather and distribute information for patient collections, and register patients by accurately recording demographic data into the scheduling system. Review insurance cards and documents to ensure correct reimbursement, while coordinating the daily operating room schedule as directed by management. Respond to phone calls from patients, physicians, and medical staff to determine urgency and suggest appropriate referrals based on workflow. Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and all relevant laws by protecting patient privacy and rights, using good judgment to adapt to workload variations. Formulate and maintain effective working relationships with peers and management as an essential team member.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients and their families
- Must be familiar with ICD-9 and CPT coding
Desired Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years related healthcare, registration, physician billing, medical records and/or medical office experience
- Knowledge of medical records administration
