Surgical Pathology Technician

Job Summary
Process and prepare surgical biopsy specimens by providing gross descriptions, maintaining accurate records, and handling radiography, photography, and special fixation. Verify patient identifiers on requisitions and containers, reject conflicting specimens, and correlate patient history with specimen types. Accession specimens in the LIS, file and retrieve materials, and replenish supplies for physicians' offices. Maintain equipment logs, ensure proper operation and preventative maintenance of tools, and document discrepancies in APLIS. Adhere to regulatory standards for biohazard safety and attend mandatory safety, compliance, and training meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a laboratory science
- 2 years of hospital laboratory experience
- Bachelor's degree in biology or related health sciences
- 1 year of hospital laboratory experience
- Act 34

- Bachelor's degree in biology or related health sciences

- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Laboratory information system experience
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers as well as co-workers both by telephone and in-person
