Job Summary
Review surgical schedules daily with the OR Service Line Coordinator to anticipate inventory needs and participate in the 2:00 pm OR Huddle. Control Operating Room inventory by making regular rounds in the surgical suite, ordering stock via Meditech, and maintaining correct locations for supplies. Coordinate yearly IR and CPD inventory counts, collaborate with Service Line Coordinators to establish schedules, and input counts onto Excel sheets to establish financial values for each location. Respond to Materials Management by following up on back orders and informing Nurse Managers of problem areas. Maintain the Tissue Log for all tissue needs, tracking items according to FDA guidelines and completing required forms.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Associates Degree or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years materials or central services experience
- Basic knowledge of computers
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of sterilization and aseptic technique
- Willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures
- Willingness to assume other activities relative to the department's needs
- Understanding of individual roles/responsibilities during hospital codes (e.g., Code Green, Code Red)
- Knowledge of CDC guidelines for Universal Precautions
- Ability to describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education program
- Ability to utilize proper body mechanics
- Ability to operate equipment safely
- Knowledge of where to find material safety data sheets (MSDS)
- Knowledge of respiratory etiquette guidelines
- Ability to respond to the needs of the OR and CPD by wireless telephone during work hours
