Surgical Coordinator

Surgical Coordinators guide patients through the surgical process in an ophthalmology network, including scheduling surgeries, educating patients, collecting and documenting medical history, and performing clinical testing as scheduled. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing surgery schedules with clinicians, coordinating patient medical history and clearances with Nurse Practitioners/PCPs, detailing preoperative instructions (e.g., eye drops), addressing patient questions, handling payment collection, performing IOL measurements aligned with surgeon lens requirements, ensuring accurate EMR documentation, and conducting ophthalmic testing as needed. The role emphasizes strong written and verbal communication, patient-centered service, problem-solving under pressure, collaboration with the care team, and adaptability to changing schedules. Knowledge of ocular pharmacology is a plus but not required, and physical duties include standing, walking, fine motor tasks, and occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
