Job Summary
Surgical Coordinator responsibilities include managing Surgical Scheduling (50%)—scheduling procedures, obtaining required authorizations, answering phones professionally, post-op data entry, and coordinating with hospitals, surgical centers, and internal staff; Administrative Support (50%)—filing, handling PIP applications for motor vehicle accident patients, liaising between patient representatives and attorneys, clerical duties, documentation, charting, and assisting with patient scheduling, registration, and insurance verifications; requires high school diploma or GED, 2-3 years medical office experience, knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA, and proficiency in Excel/Word; strong organizational, communication, and multi-tasking skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 -3 years of experience in a medical office or related setting with computer experience desired
- Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical diagnostic procedures, and health care billing and authorization is required
- Prior experience with insurance verification and scheduling is required
- Office Experience: general, scheduling, telephone skills, typing, business knowledge, organization, time management, customer service, verbal communication, PC proficiency, reporting skills
- Knowledge of HIPAA/Confidentiality
- Medical receptionist: 1 year (required)
- Computer Skills: familiar with Excel, Word, Windows at least 1 year required
