Job Summary
Answer patient calls regarding upcoming surgeries and schedule H&P visits, EKGs, and elective or urgent procedures. Verify patient demographics, insurance details, and medical history while obtaining surgical pre-certifications from carriers. Maintain daily surgery logs, process schedule changes, and manage all associated record-keeping and paperwork. Provide pre-operative instructions and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations throughout the scheduling process. Work 40 hours weekly with a flexible schedule, requiring bilingual English/Spanish skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and EPIC.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalence
- Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Ability to type 40 words per minute
- Skill in operating a computer as well as software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and preferably Outlook and EPIC (hospital database)
- Well developed basic skills in writing professional letters and memos
- Telephone etiquette and professional communication skills
- Pleasant and helpful demeanor

- Knowledge of HIPAA laws

- Adherence to all HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and recordkeeping
- Understanding of pre-certification requirements for Medicare and commercial payers
- Ability to contact insurance carriers to obtain surgical pre-certification
- Ability to follow up with insurance companies until prior authorizations are obtained
- Ability to respond to patient calls and messages in a timely manner
- Ability to check voice mail and respond before the close of business day
- Normal hearing range for telephone and personal communication
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboards and other office equipment
- Ability to lift up to thirty pounds
