Job Summary
The Surgery Scheduler coordinates and schedules surgical procedures for the hospital and outpatient clinics, ensuring accurate pre-operative documentation and patient information is communicated to the surgical team. Partners with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and administrative staff to optimize the surgical schedule, manage operating room availability, and coordinate pre-operative authorizations with insurers. Responsibilities include managing the surgical schedule, confirming requirements with clinical staff, updating scheduling systems, collecting and verifying patient data and consent, coordinating with insurance providers, providing pre-operative instructions to patients, answering inquiries, coordinating pre-operative appointments and tests, monitoring equipment and supplies, assisting in operating room preparation, maintaining accurate records and preparing reports, and supporting the Scheduling Manager with administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma/GED
- At least 2 year(s) of experience in medical scheduling or a related field
- Preferred: Associate's Degree in healthcare administration or a related field
- Certified Medical Scheduler (CMS) or equivalent certification
