Job Summary
Army General Surgeon role within the U.S. Army Medical Corps handling clinical responsibilities and surgeries for Soldiers, retirees, and their families. Responsibilities include examining, diagnosing, consulting, prescribing treatments, and performing surgeries, with opportunities for continued education, leadership training, humanitarian missions, and access to state-of-the-art equipment. Travel opportunities within the United States and internationally are noted, and accession/special pay options (e.g., STRAP for residents, FAP for active duty) may be available. Must hold a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited U.S. school, be licensed to practice in the United States (DC or Puerto Rico), and have completed at least one year of GME internship and a general surgery training program; U.S. citizenship is required for active duty service.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy
- Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
- Must have a current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
- Must have completed at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
- Must have completed a training program in general surgery
- U.S. citizen to serve on Active Duty
