Job Summary

The Surgery Educator coordinates, develops, teaches, and evaluates clinical education and ongoing competency for perioperative teams across the OR environment (main hospital OR, satellite OR, women’s services, ASC, and cardiovascular surgery). Responsibilities include onboarding and orientation for OR RNs and perioperative staff; developing competency validation processes; designing perioperative education aligned with evidence-based standards (aseptic technique, time-out/briefing/debriefing, medication safety, infection prevention, safety for laser and radiation use); providing service-line education for Women’s procedures, PSH/ASC workflows, and cardiovascular surgery practices; creating education materials, checklists, and tip sheets; collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, sterile processing, supply chain, quality, and infection prevention to identify learning needs and improve performance; monitoring education compliance; participating in quality and safety initiatives; and serving as a clinical resource in perioperative areas. Qualifications emphasize RN education with a Masters in Nursing preferred, Arkansas RN license, CPR, ACLS and PALS timelines, CNOR preferred, and a minimum of 3 years perioperative nursing experience with an emphasis on education/precepting/competency validation.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Licensure and Certifications: Current Arkansas RN license and CPR required
  • ACLS required within 90 days
  • PALS required within 120 days of DOH or transfer
  • Perioperative certification (e.g., CNOR) preferred
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of acute care nursing experience required, perioperative/operating room experience required
  • Experience with staff education, precepting, competency validation, and/or performance improvement preferred
