Job Summary
Review clinical documentation in Epic for accuracy and compliance with CMS and payer guidelines. Assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for professional fee services across General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Dental, GI, and Trauma. Maintain billing workflows, resolve coding questions with leadership, and develop written procedures for staff education. Monitor activities against federal/state regulations and internal policies while maintaining certifications and continuing education. Work independently in a telecommuting environment with variable hours between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 4 years of experience coding hospital or professional services using ICD‐10‐CM and CPT
- Active coding certification through AAPC (e.g., CPC), or AHIMA (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CCS), or Equivalent credential
- Active membership in AAPC or AHIMA
- Successful completion of an internal coding skills assessment
- Telecommuting position
- Variable schedule within core operating hours: Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM
- Scheduled hours must fall within this range
Desired Qualifications
- Professional fee coding experience in multispecialty surgery, including General Surgery, Plastics, Dental, GI, and Trauma
- Completion of an accredited coding program (AAPC or AHIMA Coding Boot Camp)
- Knowledge of PFS, OPPS, CPT, ICD‐10 guidelines, CCI edits, and NCD/LCD policies
- Experience with Epic and 3M Encoder
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex, fast‐paced environment
- Coursework in anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, CPT, and ICD‐10‐CM coding
