Job Summary
The Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operating the City’s water treatment plant, overseeing chemical treatment, water quality testing, and compliance with EPA and TCEQ regulations. Requires high school diploma, relevant experience, and specific certifications.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Two (2) years of surface water treatment plant operations experience OR equivalent education and training
- Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 2 months of hire
- Must hold a Class C Surface Water Operator Certification
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of TCEQ, EPA, and public water system regulations
- Proficiency in chemical analysis, water sampling, and lab testing methods
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, reports, and technical manuals
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and plant operations technology
- Understanding of workplace safety policies, PPE use, and chemical handling
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, agencies, and the public
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a safety-sensitive environment
