Job Summary

Review briefs and underlying case records for Hon. K. Christopher Jayaram, research questions of law, and prepare prehearing memoranda based on case facts and applicable law to aid the judge's decision-making. Perform other tasks as assigned by the judge while maintaining highly responsible and confidential legal work standards. This 1-year term position, open to May graduates, requires a law school GPA in the top one-quarter and specific bar admission qualifications. The role is located at the Kansas Judicial Center in Topeka, with potential work in Lawrence or Kansas City.

Required Qualifications

  • Law school GPA must rank in top one-quarter of the applicant's graduating class
  • Licensed to practice law in Kansas
  • Taken the July 2026 Kansas bar exam
  • Applied to sit for the February 2027 Kansas bar exam and are eligible to obtain a temporary permit to practice law in Kansas
  • Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) result transferrable to Kansas per Supreme Court Rule 717
  • Successfully completed the MPRE
  • Obtain a Kansas temporary permit to practice law
  • Ability to recognize and analyze relevant facts, evidence, issues, and applicable law in complex cases
  • Ability to write clearly, thoroughly, and concisely in an organized manner
  • Familiarity with word processing and electronic legal research methods
