Job Summary
Review case briefs and underlying records for Hon. K. Christopher Jayaram, research questions of law, and prepare prehearing memoranda based on facts and applicable law. Aid the judge in decision-making and perform other tasks as assigned. This highly responsible and confidential legal work supports a 1-year term with possible extension for May graduates. Applicants must rank in the top quarter of their law school class and obtain a Kansas temporary permit to practice law.
Required Qualifications
- The applicant's law school GPA must rank in top one-quarter of the applicant's graduating class
- Licensed to practice law in Kansas
- Taken the July 2026 Kansas bar exam
- Applied to sit for the February 2027 Kansas bar exam and are eligible to obtain a temporary permit to practice law in Kansas
- Have a Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) result transferrable to Kansas per Supreme Court Rule 717
- Successfully completed the MPRE
- Obtain a Kansas temporary permit to practice law
- Ability to recognize and analyze relevant facts, evidence, issues, and applicable law in complex cases
- Ability to write clearly, thoroughly, and concisely in an organized manner
- Familiarity with word processing and electronic legal research methods
