Job Summary
Support Worker provides trauma-informed, practical and advocacy-based support to residents in an accommodation setting. Working with Case Workers and the team, you will assist residents with daily needs, participate in admissions, assessments, orientation and transition into the service, support daily activities, group programs and wellbeing initiatives, maintain a safe and respectful environment, assist with room setup, housekeeping and documentation, conduct routine inspections, respond to incidents and emergencies per procedures, and build relationships with community organisations and internal stakeholders. The role includes a rotating roster (day, afternoon and sleepover shifts) and requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work with diverse backgrounds, and a compassionate, client-centred approach.
Required Qualifications
- A Certificate qualification, relevant industry experience, or current tertiary studies in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services or a related field
- Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain
- Experience working within homelessness, housing, community services, residential care or similar settings (highly regarded)
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Ability to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
- Compassionate, non-judgemental and trauma-informed approach
- Sound decision-making skills and the ability to respond effectively in crisis situations
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
