Job Summary

Provide nutrition and lifestyle counseling, education, and support to at-risk pregnant women in the community. Deliver prenatal nutrition guidance, breastfeeding support, and food security assistance while facilitating groups in multicultural settings. Establish and maintain relationships with public, volunteers, and external agencies to coordinate community resources. Communicate effectively in English and a second language, ensuring culturally safe, inclusive, and client-centered care for diverse populations including Indigenous clients. Work independently with minimal direction, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines while maintaining confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • training in nutrition, counseling, or health sciences at the University or College level
  • 2 years experience in community outreach, group facilitation and counseling
  • experience with pregnant and parenting women/families
  • ability to speak a second language
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License
  • ability to use a personal vehicle for local area travel
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources and agencies
  • Sound knowledge of prenatal nutrition, food security, prenatal health and breastfeeding
  • Demonstrated counseling skills
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills in a multicultural setting
  • Ability to network within the community
  • Working knowledge of smoking cessation and addictions
  • Working knowledge of infant nutrition, growth and development
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a second language both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with public, volunteers and other employees
  • Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully/effectively with co-workers, public, demanding clients and staff from other agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work within a multicultural team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction
