Job Summary
Support Worker - Shelter provides front-line, direct support to shelter clients by assisting with daily living activities, responding to immediate needs, and promoting safety, dignity, and inclusion. Works with Lift staff in a team-based environment, supports harm-reduction practices, and communicates safety concerns per policies. Key duties include responding to medical emergencies (overdoses, injuries, mental health crises), assisting with daily activities, navigating stairs, safely lifting up to 50lbs, and maintaining client confidentiality. Shift structure includes 12-hour day and night rotations (8am-8pm and 8pm-8am) at Driftwood Shelter on Barnet St in Powell River, BC. Requires high school completion, 1 year of employment experience, knowledge of Housing First and harm reduction, familiarity with mental health/addiction services, and successful Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check. Emphasizes teamwork, cultural safety, and adherence to emergency response protocols.
