Job Summary
Provide harm reduction services at the Overdose Prevention Site (OPS), assist people who use substances by offering referrals to health and social services, and encourage safe use practices in a welcoming, low-barrier environment. Collaborate with peers and community partners to support participants in accessing resources, maintain a respectful and safe space, de-escalate conflicts, document and monitor records, and support site operations. Demonstrate trauma-informed, culturally safe practices and connect participants with community resources while promoting an inclusive environment in Powell River’s OPS.
Required Qualifications
- High school completion required
- Familiarity with mental health, addiction services, and community resources
- Experience in social services, community health, harm reduction, or a related field
- Understanding of trauma-informed, harm reduction, and culturally safe practices
- Ability to de-escalate conflict in a non-violent manner
- Awareness of local “street culture”
- Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check clearance
