Job Summary
Support Services HVAC Mechanic roles involving operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems across statewide NC facilities. Key duties include diagnosing malfunctions in HVAC/refrigeration and control systems, troubleshooting direct digital control components and building automation functions, maintaining centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, inspecting and adjusting pneumatic control systems, applying electrical knowledge to resolve complex control circuits, selecting appropriate tools and materials, and verifying proper operation after repairs. Requires knowledge of HVAC systems, blueprints and wiring diagrams, and EPA certification; involves travel throughout the state to multiple regional maintenance yards and facilities. Roles are articulated at two levels (I and II) with related education/experience requirements. Requires state application and background checks; emphasizes merit-based selection and adherence to state policies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- EPA certification as Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F
