Job Summary
Provide one-on-one basic breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support to WIC participants via texting, phone, and occasional in-person clinic interactions as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. Entry-level role assisting pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, referring complex issues to lactation consultants or healthcare providers. Work primarily remotely with a 10–12 hour weekly schedule (Mon–Thu with rotating weekend coverage) and a four-week training period; requires completing required WIC breastfeeding, nutrition, and participant education modules. Promote public health, culturally responsive, client-centered service, and maintain accurate, confidential client records. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; no advanced lactation credentials required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must have breastfed at least one baby for a minimum of six months (not required to be currently breastfeeding)
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage a caseload and complete documentation within required timeframes
- Confidentiality and sensitive information handling
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and texting platforms
