Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Summary

Engage with suppliers for industrialization and readiness across multiple automotive components, supporting selection and capability assessment aligned with program timelines. Drive APQP discipline and enforce PPAP requirements, ensuring suppliers meet dimensional, material, and performance validation before production approval. Track industrialization project KPIs including on-time PPAP submission, process capability indices, defect rates, and issue closure rates to assess supplier readiness. Evaluate and validate manufacturing processes through audits, PFMEA reviews, control plan validation, and equipment capability assessments. Optimize manufacturing scalability during ramp-up phases and facilitate problem resolution using focused problem solving to address defects and launch roadblocks. Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to drive VA/VE cost optimization while maintaining quality standards. Requires up to 50% travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or other related field
  • Strong Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Strong Knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Strong Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Strong Knowledge of Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) development
  • Strong Knowledge of Lean manufacturing
  • Strong Knowledge of Traceability requirements
  • Technical expertise of automotive components designs and manufacturing
  • Knowledge of safety and test requirements
  • Knowledge of appearance approval process
  • Knowledge of Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of datum structures
  • Experience in Extrusion and fabrication commodities
  • VDA 6.3 credentials
  • Understanding of VDA 6.3
  • In depth knowledge of IATF16949:2016
  • Understanding of ISO14001
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8-10 hours per day
  • Ability to communicate using phone and/or e-mail
  • Ability to view, read, and interpret documents
  • Ability to perform all duties in an office environment that may contain ambient noise and temperature fluctuations
  • Up to 50% travel requirement

Desired Qualifications

  • ISO9001 is also a preferred knowledge set
