Supplier Development Engineer

Job Summary
Develop and lead business cost reduction strategies to improve Reading's cost position while driving continuous improvement in supplier development and product enhancement. Interface with Procurement and Engineering teams to prioritize sourcing needs, manage the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for vendor qualification, and resolve supplier quality issues using corrective and preventative actions. Specify product acceptance criteria, track supplier performance indicators, and research external market information to identify new technologies and potential sources in US and Low Cost Country regions. Challenge existing suppliers for more cost-effective and reliable products, acting as a liaison to coordinate change orders and define process parameters. Deliver results measured by key metrics including cost savings, supplier Value Analysis/Value Engineering, and audit compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 5 years' experience in supplier quality or supplier development
- 3 years' experience within Reading Engineering
- Experience in Manufacturing and/or truck equipment industry
- Prior experience with cross-functional program management to qualify new components, supporting issues with current production, developing new suppliers to reduce cost, increase capacity, and auditing suppliers to ensure process conformance
- Continuous improvement experience including Lean or Six Sigma
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, specifications and regulations
- PC skills including MS Office, Auto CAD and Solidworks
Desired Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering / MBA preferred but not required
