Job Summary
Conduct special education bus transportation for Inwood Early Learning Academy and Valley View Elementary, loading/unloading wheelchair-bound students and managing small groups when teachers are unavailable. Assist teachers with routine classroom operations, including maintaining bulletin boards, correcting student work, and helping with hygiene procedures. Supervise students, demonstrate exercise equipment usage, and collaborate with colleagues while maintaining composure in loud environments. Be flexible with schedule changes and complete required training and in-service sessions. Pass the state-developed aide competency test; regular and substitute employees without prior aide classification will be evaluated based on seniority, qualifications, and past service.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- State mandated competency exam
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detail but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired students
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Understanding of confidentiality and commitment to abide by confidentiality regulations
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds such as adaptive equipment and supplies
- Ability to frequently push/pull up to 90 pounds such as grocery carts filled with supplies or student wheel chairs
- Ability to regularly reach with hands and arms
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, and talk or hear
- Ability to occasionally sit, to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to occasionally bend at the trunk more than the average person
- Ability to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment
- Ability to work with public and other staff, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people
- Ability to be flexible in schedule and activities throughout the day
- Ability to complete necessary training and in-service as required by the County
