Job Summary
Decontaminate all endoscopes and probes according to manufacturer guidelines and reprocess equipment using Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) Units. Perform chemical monitoring of the GUS System and ensure proper coverage of equipment prior to transfer between areas. Maintain and restock the department throughout the shift while completing annual skills competency and attending in-service meetings. Educate new staff on endoscopy equipment and apply appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) techniques. Provide accurate documentation, update inventory reports, and participate in performance improvement projects to support continuous customer satisfaction. Comply with Joint Commission and hospital standards, including attending mandatory in-service training and obtaining required Fire Life Safety Training within 30 days if applicable.
Required Qualifications
- High School or equivalent
- Specialized/technical training
- A graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician
- One (1) year experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment
- One (1) year of endoscopic scope processing experience
- Knowledge of handling and cleaning of Medical Equipment and related support supplies for patient
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City)
- Current Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD)
- Must be available for on-call/standby
- Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner
- Must complete annual skills / competency per hospital policy/ procedure
- Must be able to accurately document
- Must be able to apply appropriate technique of donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)
- Must be able to follow strict protocols to prevent infections
- Must be able to ensure all equipment is covered properly prior to transfer to/from reprocessing area
- Must be able to reprocess Endoscopes utilizing Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) Units
- Must be able to perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System as per Manual High Level Disinfectant (HLD) Instruction for Use (IFU)
- Must be able to ensure the department is clean, maintain, and restock throughout the shift
- Must be able to attend in-service / department meetings
- Must be able to assist and educate new staff to Endoscopy equipment
- Must be able to participate in department Performance Improvement projects
- Must be able to comply with all Joint Commission and Hospital standards as they relate to the department
- Must be able to travel to other scope processing departments/areas when necessary to meet organizational needs
- Must be able to update/provide inventory report to department and/or stakeholders
Desired Qualifications
- One (1) year experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment
- One (1) year of endoscopic scope processing experience
