Job Summary
Shift Leader responsible for overseeing afternoon shift manufacturing operations in a facility, leading a ~10-person team, maintaining safety compliance and quality, managing shift production schedules, ensuring proper equipment maintenance, and securing the plant at shift end. Requires strong safety focus, ability to monitor workflow, prepare shift reports, coach and develop team, drive continuous improvement in safety, productivity, and quality, and collaborate with Quality Manager and Training Lead on training needs. Role includes on-the-job training for up to 8 weeks, ensuring PPE, safety protocols, and adherence to ISO9001 standards; essential leadership, risk assessment, and operational excellence skills are emphasized, with attention to performance management, attendance, and disciplinary actions as needed.
Required Qualifications
- ILM Level 3 or equivalent qualification
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent qualification)
- Demonstratable Experience of working within an ISO9001 certified business
- A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory/management role within manufacturing
- A minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience
- Proven experience in team management and performance improvement, with the ability to motivate, develop, and retain team members in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstratable experience of lean manufacturing processes and techniques
- First Aider certification (or willingness to train)
- FLT license (or willingness to train)
- Fire Warden certification (or willingness to train)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (Desirable)
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (Desirable)
- ILM Level 5 or equivalent (Desirable)
- Qualified First Aider (Desirable)
- Qualified Fire Warden (Desirable)
- NEBOSH Certificate (Desirable)
- Ability to develop and mentor deputies and manage disciplinary processes up to written warning stage
