Job Summary
Plan, direct, and control all phases of laboratory phlebotomy operations, including staffing levels, regulatory compliance, and financial management for Customer Service and Patient Service Centers. Supervise workflow for phlebotomists and emergency room medical assistants, establish priorities and workloads, and resolve troubleshooting to ensure timely specimen collection. Evaluate and implement changes based on departmental staffing and patient flow, while monitoring safety, infection control, and staff attendance. Manage inventory to minimize outdating, oversee quality assurance functions, and direct training for new employees and students. Maintain current laboratory manuals, coordinate scheduling for 8-hour and 12-hour shifts, and serve as a liaison between laboratory services and information systems.
Required Qualifications
- AA or BS preferred
- At least 3 years of phlebotomy supervisor experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Phlebotomy Certification by a technical training program or Medical Assistant Certification
- Customer service skills with knowledge of laboratory and hospital information systems
- Customer service experience in a clinical setting
- Knowledge of insurance providers, ICD-10 CM Coding, medical necessity, and medical terminology
- At least six years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Analytical skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Strong Organizational Skills
- Strong Computer Background
- Knowledge of Regulatory Agencies (e.g. DNV, NYSDOH)
- Laboratory billing experience
- Phlebotomy Technician Cert.
