Job Summary
Plan, coordinate, and supervise the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and inspection of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems to ensure safe, reliable service. Provide leadership, training, and performance management for approximately 20 unionized staff while enforcing health and safety programs and regulatory compliance. Respond to operational emergencies, customer complaints, and infrastructure failures, including participation in a week-long on-call program and winter control rotations. Coordinate personnel, equipment, and contractors for preventative maintenance, emergency response, and capital projects, while preparing operational reports, budgeting, and liaising with residents and external agencies.
Required Qualifications
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- MECP Level 1 Water certificate
- MECP Level 1 Wastewater certificate
- Valid Ontario Driver's License, Class D with Z endorsement, or greater
- Five (5) years' experience in Public Works operations, construction or similar field
- Minimum two (2) years' experience coordinating and supervising field staff
- Ability to meet deadlines, function well under pressure, and respond to frequently changing demands
- Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Work Order systems
- Available to work a variety of shifts and be available for call-ins as required including evenings and weekend
Desired Qualifications
- University Degree or College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Water Resources, Municipal Engineering, or a related discipline
- Certification or eligibility for certification with OACETT or PEO
