Job Summary
Supervisor of Payroll for Montclair Public Schools Central Office. Oversees operation, management, and implementation of the district payroll system, including preparing confidential financial information for negotiations and for the School Business Administrator/Board Secretary. Responsibilities include maintaining payroll records per federal/state policy, coordinating with Personnel for salary/deductions, data maintenance and changes prior to payroll runs, purging and scheduling compliant with law, preparing payroll for all district employees, producing periodic payroll summaries, generating and reconciling various payroll-related reports (e.g., 941, NJ 927, WR-30, Multiple Worksite, W-2), reconciling pension and insurance reports quarterly, managing automatic payroll enrollment, handling W-4s, monitoring balances and encumbrances with the School Business Administrator, and responding to auditor and employee inquiries. Supervises the Payroll Secretary and performs other duties as assigned. Twelve-month position with salary determined annually by the Montclair Board of Education based on experience and responsibility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or finance preferred
- Prior successful payroll experience
- Expertise with computers in data processing and spreadsheets
- Effective analytical ability and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Leadership ability, especially when working with teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at one time
- Experience with Edumet preferred
- Required criminal background check and proof of US citizenship or legal alien status
