Supervisor - Microbiology

Job Summary
Coordinate daily operations, supervise and train department staff, and oversee performance improvement and quality control programs. Resolve operational issues, escalate concerns to the Lab Manager or Physician Supervisor, and ensure compliance with all accrediting and regulatory standards. Maintain a patient-focused environment while enforcing company and laboratory policies, managing fiscal responsibility, and participating in department projects. Perform technical duties as needed and remain knowledgeable on current laws and accreditation requirements. Work a flexible schedule including weekends, with travel between facilities required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science
- 4 years training and experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty under a qualified Medical Director
- Experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc.
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist generalist, Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist generalist
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Judgmental skills in order to identify and solve problems as well as handle difficult situations
- Analytical skills necessary to prepare/interpret a variety of management reports, analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment
- Analytical skills to collect data, perform calculations, maintain system logs and operate laboratory computer equipment
- Skills to manage stress in order to maintain a professional atmosphere and provide quality service
- Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. more than 8 hours a day, weekend)

- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, or biological science
- Advanced analytical skills necessary in order to analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment
