Job Summary
Coordinate decontamination, sterilization, cleaning, and assembly of instruments and supplies dispensed by the Central Sterile Service. Direct workflow by making assignments for staff and coordinating surgical equipment needs between the department and procedural areas. Monitor operating room and ambulatory surgery schedules to ensure specific trays are ready for use. Perform biological monitoring of sterilizers, review compliance records, and troubleshoot equipment to return services to operation. Oversee technicians, schedule work, and organize in-service education for staff. Accept full responsibility for department function during assigned shifts, including processing patient charge items and identifying surgical instruments for all hospital services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
- Certification from the Certification for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- 1- 2 years Central Service or Surgical Processing
- Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures
- Sterilization techniques and procedures
- Infection control and work flow principles and requirements
- Equipment and supply processing
- Demonstrated knowledge of all medical and surgical equipment and supplies within a Hospital setting
- Ability to identify items and ensure accuracy against catalog listing of surgical instruments and equipment
- Exercises responsible judgment to provide necessary supplies and equipment for patient care
- Familiarity with a variety of surgical equipment, including but not limited to: dental, optometry/ophthalmology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, ENT, GYN, cardiology, dermatology, urology, podiatry, and general surgery
- Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
