Job Summary
Oversees a team of Advocacy Specialists who provide individual and systemic advocacy for children and adults with disabilities; manages case strategy development and workload, onboarding and coaching, data tracking and reporting, and supervises Advocacy Specialists; coordinates with DRW attorneys for representation at administrative hearings and collaborates with external entities and internal stakeholders; conducts needs assessments, coordinates with service providers, and develops client-specific strategies to empower self-advocacy; supports administrative tasks, program activity reporting, and community engagement with state agencies and advocacy organizations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or four years of paid work providing advocacy to vulnerable people may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience with individual casework, which could include case management, advocacy support, investigation, negotiation, and/or mediation.
- Experience working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Computer skills, including email, word processing, and accurate case file maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and manage your own workload, which includes prioritizing work and multitasking multiple cases simultaneously.
- Previous supervisory experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with supervisory roles in advocacy or legal services
- Knowledge of disability rights law and protective services
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual abilities (Spanish, Hmong, or ASL) are a plus
- Experience with data systems and reporting
- Ability to lead, coach, and develop staff
- Collaboration with multiple stakeholders (state, local agencies)
- Case strategy development
- Workload management
- Recruitment and onboarding experience
- Ability to conduct needs assessments and coordinate with service providers
- Familiarity with Family Care, IRIS, and community-based services (Wisconsin) desirable
