Job Summary
Coordinate the implementation and sustainment of the Blackwater Mine Health and Safety Management Program, including critical risk standards across the site. Lead the Safety department by coordinating training, guiding employees, and providing mentorship to supervisors and trainees. Regularly audit operations for compliance with BC regulations, identify hazards, and recommend exposure reductions. Oversee inherent programs such as hazard/risk systems, event reporting, and contractor safety management while liaising with regulatory authorities to resolve non-compliance issues. Analyze safety data, prepare reports, and facilitate meetings on health and safety matters. Maintain and create safety policies, advise on technical standards, and coordinate the implementation of new systems to improve safety performance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of Safety leadership in a Superintendent role at an operating mine site
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management
- Experience in surface mining operations including drill & blast, mobile maintenance, load, haul dump operations, crushing operations, process operations and mine traffic management
- Experience interacting with mines inspectors and exceptional knowledge of local mine regulations
- Valid driver's license
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams
- Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
- Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Ability to act with integrity, good judgment, and discretion
- Strong leadership capability
- Passion and experience in achieving outstanding performance in the areas of health and safety
- Excellent oral and written communication skills enabling the writing and presentation of high-quality reports
- Ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas in a clear and concise manner in both formal and informal contexts
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Proven initiative and self-motivation
- Ability to manage and prioritize assignments

- Robust knowledge of risk management, hazard identification, and critical control monitoring
- Ability to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties
Desired Qualifications
- Surface Mine Rescue Certification preferred
