Job Summary
Supervise and engage young children (ages 2–4) in preschool classrooms during regular teacher absences, maintaining a safe, consistent learning environment. Follow provided lesson plans, track attendance, collect homework, and instruct students individually or in groups while adapting methods to individual needs. Manage the class from roll call to tidying up, and supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in halls and on the playground. Lift, carry, and hold children, and stand for long periods throughout the day. For long-term substitutes, develop lesson plans consistent with the regular teacher's curriculum. Communicate daily and meet weekly with the head teacher, accepting guidance where needed to assist in supervising student teachers. This seasonal role runs from June 23 to August 15, 2025, with two part-time schedule options available at Kings Bay Y / JCC Brooklyn.
Required Qualifications
- College credits in Early Childhood Education (at least 1 year) or Substitute certificate
- Experience in leading and instructing childcare students – at least 1 year
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- Flexibility and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Available to work between late June and late August
- Available for Day Shift: 5–8 hours per day, Monday to Friday
- Available for After-School Shift: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- Must be able to lift, carry, and hold children, to stop and bend to a child's level and stand for long periods throughout the day
