Job Summary
Operate and control sugar crystallization pans, evaporators, and syrup production systems across a continental shift. Diagnose operational issues using the WonderWare control system and laboratory data to resolve problems while managing remelt pans and meeting quality standards for white and specialty sugars. Start up and shut down evaporator and vacuum pan systems during routine and emergency stops, balancing steam flow with stationary engineers. Work with the Shift Superintendent and Area Managers to achieve shift priorities and production objectives. Requires a university degree or five years of sugar industry experience, with prior refining experience preferred. Located at Redpath Sugar in Toronto.
Required Qualifications
- University degree
- 5 years' experience in the sugar industry
- Confidently operate a computer control system to control process equipment in an environment that demands a high level of multi-tasking
- Experience with meeting tight quality parameters and making decisions to change the process operating settings to achieve the desired results
- Experience operating sugar crystallization pans
- Experience operating evaporator systems
- Experience operating syrup production systems
- Experience diagnosing problems in the operation using control systems, laboratory databases, and independent observations
- Ability to make quick decisions regarding safety, quality, and people issues
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to exercise sound judgement with safety, quality and people issues
- Ability to make decisions to resolve operational problems to support plant goals
- Ability to interact with shift supervision and Stationary Engineers
- Ability to balance steam flow
- Ability to start up and shut down of evaporator and vacuum pan systems during both routine and emergency stops
- Ability to operate and control the white sugar crystallization pans
- Ability to operate and control the remelt sugar crystallization pans
- Ability to manufacture syrups for yellow and speciality syrups for production
- Ability to operate and control the liquor evaporators and vapour systems
