Job Summary
Conduct subsurface utility engineering by designating and locating underground utilities using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and other locating devices. Operate and maintain vacuum excavation trucks safely while creating legible field sketches and performing records research. Supervise multiple two- and three-person crews, hold monthly safety meetings, and develop corrective action plans for identified hazards. Select and implement proper maintenance of traffic signage while adhering to all safety precautions. This role requires a minimum of four years of utility locating or designating experience and proficiency in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) standards. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a DOT Medical card, with mechanical aptitude and equipment maintenance skills being a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience
- 4-8 years of utility locating or utility designating experience using many types of pipe and cable locating devices including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
- Experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
- Valid current driver's license
- Ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical card for Commercial Motor Vehicle operation
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to walk for extended periods
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Willingness to work evenings/weekends when required
- Willingness to travel for overnight and extended stay projects as required
- Ability to follow instructions
- Training and mentoring crews with a positive can-do attitude
- Leadership and mentoring skills
- Ability to accurately designate and locate various subsurface utilities in varied site conditions
- Ability to maintain required certifications
