Job Summary
Utilize maps, records, and Subsurface Utility Engineering field equipment to accurately locate underground utility lines and conduct regular inspections for hazards. Collaborate with construction crews to ensure safe excavation and installation while maintaining accurate records of utility locations. Operate ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic designating equipment, sewer cameras, and vacuum excavation tools adhering to all safety protocols and industry standards. Assist with maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and work sites, and perform other duties as assigned. Requires 3-5 years of experience as a SUE Technician, ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, daily travel, and occasional overnight trips.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience as a SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) Technician or Utility Locator
- Must be able to interpret maps
- Knowledge of underground utility systems
- Must be able to walk outside year-round through all kinds of terrain and in extreme heat and cold
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a utility locator or SUE Technician
- Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and the ability to interpret maps and records
- Familiarity with utility locating equipment, such as electromagnetic locators and ground-penetrating radar
- Ability to walk outdoors for long periods of time through all kinds of terrain, including urban, suburban, and rural locations, and working under adverse conditions (heat, cold, hills, swamps, wildlife & insects, high traffic areas)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Work 50 hours during busy periods
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, carry, and operate equipment as needed on the project
- Ability to travel daily
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work in fast-paced environments
- Can work unsupervised when required
- Background & motor vehicle checks
- Pre-employment drug screening
Desired Qualifications
- High School/GED or equivalent preferred
- Current Commercial Driver's License is a plus
- Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit
