Job Summary
Linguist position under YSG/TU open evergreen requisition for current and future Foreign Language Support Services. Responsibilities include interpretation in-person and virtual, translating written/electronic/audio/video materials, reviewing/editing documents, and delivering foreign language instruction in classroom or virtual environments. Requires ability to provide idiomatic translations, consecutive interpretation, cultural familiarity, and performance under high pressure. Eligible CAT I/II/III linguists must meet ILR English proficiency levels and security clearance requirements; CAT II/III candidates must be U.S. citizens with appropriate clearances. Roles may be remote or CONUS-based with some travel; candidates should be willing to live/work in harsh environments and function as part of a professional team. Location hints include Remote Operations Support in Huntsville, AL and Remote TU Support at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, with daily tasks potentially spanning multiple government contracts and clients.
Required Qualifications
- Must be qualified/certified at one of CAT I/II/III categories with ILR English proficiency levels (CAT I: ILR 2+; CAT II: ILR 2+; CAT III: ILR 3)
- CAT I linguists may be locally hired (regional outside AO) and security vetted; CAT II linguists must be U.S. citizens with security clearance; CAT III linguists require U.S. citizenship and either TOP SECRET with SCI or interim TS with SCI access
- Shall have the ability to provide idiomatic translations of nontechnical material English<->foreign language
- Shall be able to conduct consecutive, accurate translation and interpretation of ongoing conversations and/or activities
- Shall have familiarity with local culture and customs
- Shall be willing and able to live and work in harsh environments including temporary facilities
- Shall be able to function under high pressure and stress and as part of a professional team
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and target foreign languages related to government missions
- Speak English and foreign language fluently with appropriate tone and register
- Interpret in a manner that is accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Experience providing foreign language instruction to adult students
