Sudan INGO Forum Director

Job Summary

Lead the overall strategic direction of the Sudan INGO Forum, overseeing coordination, representation, and stakeholder engagement efforts across access, advocacy, and area workstreams. Serve as the primary representative in high-level coordination spaces including the Humanitarian Country Team, Inter-Cluster Coordination Group, and regional inter-agency platforms to advocate for improved humanitarian access and space. Supervise up to four direct reports and manage a lean Secretariat team while facilitating coordination among diverse INGOs and national/local responders. Manage fundraising efforts, oversee donor reporting, and ensure external representation based on extensive consultations with members. Report directly to the Steering Committee through the SC Chair, with significant travel to Nairobi, Darfur, and Port Sudan.

Required Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience
  • 10+ years of humanitarian sector experience
  • at least 5 years in senior leadership or coordination roles
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian coordination, access negotiations, and inter-agency mechanisms
  • Proven experience leading teams in complex humanitarian environments
  • Exceptional representation and diplomacy skills with experience engaging with UN agencies, donors, and host governments
  • Ability to operate independently and with significant strategic autonomy
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Must be available for significant travel to Nairobi and multiple locations in Sudan, including Darfur
  • Must be able to travel up to 60% throughout Sudan, including in Darfur, and to Nairobi
  • Must be willing to work in insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited
  • Must be willing to work in areas where amenities, health care, power and water infrastructure and living conditions are limited
  • Must be willing to reside in guesthouses with differing levels of conditions depending on the field location
  • Must be able to formally supervise INGO Forum Secretariat members, including up to 4 direct reports

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in Sudan or similar conflict-affected contexts (e.g. South Sudan, Syria, Yemen)
  • Knowledge of Sudanese political and humanitarian dynamics
  • Working knowledge of Arabic is an asset
  • Familiarity with donor trends and international policy forums related to humanitarian response
