Job Summary
Mentor students in Brooklyn, NY’s middle/high schools who are at risk of absenteeism; greet students to create a welcoming environment, engage with caregivers, and call home when mentee is absent. Collaborate with other mentors to develop attendance improvement plans, identify root causes affecting attendance (academic, social, family, health, motivation), set goals and follow-up timelines, coordinate supports and referrals with school staff, and maintain and track intervention data. Requires high energy and strong ability to connect with teenagers with professional boundaries; bilingual in Spanish a plus. 12-18 hours per week; compensation $25-$27 per hour; reports to Community School Director or Program Director; transit check program and referral bonuses offered. Beneficial to have a college degree, but the role is open to college students or retirees. Reports to assigned NYC public school site daily; multiple hourly positions may be combined into a full-time role for the right candidate.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED - College Degree Preferred
- Must be able to pass a background check and DOE fingerprinting
