Job Summary

Assist special education students and passengers with safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Monitor students with special needs until released to teach, instructional assistants, or parents. Ensure the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles by securing students and equipment, checking safety vests, wheelchairs, and seat belts. Operate lifts and radios as necessary to facilitate safe loading/unloading and contact dispatchers. Instruct students to enforce rules and regulations while maintaining safety and well-being. Prepare incident and misconduct reports to document activities and convey information to supervisors. Implement special transportation plans for each special needs student to ensure safety during district vehicle transport.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Criminal background check
  • Drug and alcohol testing
  • First aid/cpr
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals
  • Operational knowledge of school buses and district vehicles
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Attention to detail
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to perform basic math including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios

  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building and department procedures
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate/required safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
  • Operational knowledge of school buses and district vehicles required at the conclusion of the district-provided training course

Desired Qualifications

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals; typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, etc.; and office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, etc.
