Job Summary
Substitute Teacher needed for Thresholds High School's Young Adult Program in Chicago, IL. The role involves leading in the classroom, following district/state curriculum with adaptation for multiple ability levels, preparing weekly lesson plans, administering standardized tests, supervising lunchroom/gym along with other teachers and aides, counseling students with academic or behavioral concerns, maintaining records of attendance and progress, and participating in the therapeutic milieu per program needs. The position requires collaboration with ISBE, CPS, and DCFS for required paperwork, and adherence to Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) protocols with potential crisis intervention and, when necessary, physical management. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in education (preferred) and possession of an ISBE Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License; experience with high school students facing mental health challenges is preferred. Competitive pay range $25.14–$27.69 per hour, with benefits including PTO, 403(b), EAP, and mileage reimbursement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education preferred
- Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
- Previous experience working with high school aged children dealing with mental illness preferred
- Computer proficiency including ability to use email and complete documents electronically
- Ability to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention therapeutic restraint techniques; ability to lift 40 pounds; mobility to kneel as needed (training provided)
