Job Summary
Teach the assigned subject and enable students to pursue their education in the absence of the regular teacher by reviewing lesson plans and schedules with the designated school representative. Maintain established school routines, oversee pupil behavior during class, lunch, and activity periods, and provide maximum supervision of assigned students at all times. Report daily activities in writing at the conclusion of each teaching day, remain on school grounds during assigned hours, and model nondiscriminatory practices. Commit to working four days per month to be considered an active substitute. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years old
- Possess good morale character
- Hold a high school diploma
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer
- See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone
- Possesses the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and to reach overhead
Desired Qualifications
- Preference given to persons 21 years old or older
- Preference of two years of full-time secondary education
- Two years of work experience with children
- Virginia Certified Teacher
- VA Certified
