Substitute Teacher

Job Summary

Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment while supervising students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, playground, and cafeteria. Follow lesson plans provided by regular teachers or design new lessons to teach assigned curriculum in subjects such as English, Math, Science, or History. Provide in-class and at-home assignments, maintain records of learning accomplishments and behavior, and connect Biblical Truth to students. Adhere strictly to the teacher's time schedule and school emergency protocols, including fire drills and lockdowns. This role serves children from preschool through 12th grade at a Christ-Centered covenant Christian school in Phoenix, Arizona.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college
  • State teaching certification and/or substitute teaching certification
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • State teaching certification and/or substitute teaching certification
  • Training in Education and best practices in teaching
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Ability to teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods
  • Ability to develop authentic relationships with young adults
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem resolution skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations
  • Excellent organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Substitute-teaching experience
  • Ability to lead classrooms effectively
  • Passion for Christian education
  • Calling to work with youth
  • Desire for students to grow in their understanding of subject matter with a biblical perspective
  • Display a deep knowledge of English Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, History or other assigned subject and the application to our lives
  • Connect Biblical Truth to students
