Substitute Teacher

Job Summary

Conduct classroom operations at the Children's Learning Center by implementing developmentally appropriate activities, maintaining Great Start to Quality and NAEYC accreditation standards, and supervising child health, safety, and well-being. Manage daily documentation including attendance, meal records, incident reports, and anecdotal notes while participating in team planning meetings to coordinate lesson plans and behavioral support strategies. Keep the learning environment clean and arranged, incorporate diversity and inclusion principles, and engage in required professional development. Work on-call from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday based on availability.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must work under direct supervision of a qualified Lead Caregiver or Site Supervisor
  • Must Meet at least ONE of the following: CDA credential with required training hours OR Associate's degree or higher in early childhood or child-related field OR High school diploma/GED + required ECE coursework + documented experience hours
  • Meets Lead Caregiver qualifications under Michigan rules
  • Selected candidates for this position must possess a sensitivity to the diversity of the agency's service population including (but not limited to) differences of culture, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic
  • Must be able to be your best self
  • Communication skills that focus on positive and professional communication with parents and children
  • Utilization of positive management techniques in the classroom
  • Abilities and skills in the team approach to problem solving and task completion
  • Shows sensitivity to cultural differences
  • Must be physical and capable of successfully managing an early learning environment
  • Must have the ability to reach with hands and arms
  • Must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be available for 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday

Desired Qualifications

  • High Scope curriculum preferred
  • Current student in early childhood education
  • Child Care Assistant (CCA)-level experience or equivalent exposure
  • CDA in progress
  • 0–2 years' experience in licensed childcare
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Minimum 1–2 years in a licensed childcare setting
  • Associate's degree or higher in early childhood or child-related field
  • High school diploma/GED + required ECE coursework + documented experience hours
  • Prefer CPR/First Aid certification
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in ECE or related field
  • Extensive classroom experience (2+ years preferred)
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
