Job Summary
Instruct students in large, small, and one-on-one situations while creating a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity. Supervise student behavior and well-being in the classroom and all educational settings, administering discipline when appropriate. Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes. Manage a classroom in the regular teacher's absence by following provided lesson plans, taking attendance, and ensuring a safe learning environment. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Requires Colorado Department of Education substitute authorization or teaching license, high school equivalency diploma, and criminal background check.
Required Qualifications
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) substitute authorization or teaching license
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Basic classroom management and planning skills
- Basic organizational skills
- Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
- Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
- Ability and desire to work as a team member
- Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
- Work location is subject to change to meet the requirements of the organization
- Light work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds)
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Frequent bending and reaching
- Occasional lifting, pulling, and pushing
- Speaking and hearing
- Visual concentration
- Eye/hand coordination
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard
- Concentrated reading/writing/mathematics
- May work outdoors when monitoring student activities
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous successful teaching experience
- Experience working in the public sector
- Experience advising school clubs/co-curricular activities
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
