Job Summary
Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education by acting as a witness to Gospel values while following instruction sets provided by classroom teachers. Manage the classroom with positive, consistent discipline and provide appropriate materials for student engagement while maintaining accurate records per school policies. Adhere to the Standards of Conduct and Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry policies throughout employment. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change rapidly, potentially requiring weekend, evening, and holiday coverage. Traveling to off-site locations and working in multiple educational settings may be necessary. Staff meetings often include Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
Required Qualifications
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
- Support and adhere to the Standards of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school
- Follow instruction set by classroom teacher with logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum
- Provide appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning
- Practice positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
- Maintain current and accurate records according to school policies
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period
- Meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED
- Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
- Knowledge of instructional methods/strategies and curriculum differentiation
- Able to work well with others in the school community
- Ability to manage student behavior in classroom setting
- Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
- Skill in job appropriate technology
- Skill in managing conflicts effectively
- Skill in organizational management and delegation of responsibilities
- Must maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to students, parents, colleagues, and administration
- Will be required to work in multiple educational settings
- Must be able to work on weekends, evenings, and some holidays
- Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards
- Must be willing to be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech including Christian prayer and Catholic liturgical celebrations
- Must be willing to use personal or school vehicles to drive to off-site locations
- Must be willing to travel within and outside the school to meetings and other events, including overnight lodging
Desired Qualifications
- A substitute teacher who will have responsibility for a class for 50% or more of the grading period should have the same qualifications required for the regular teacher
