Substitute Teacher Aide

Job Summary

Conduct daily classroom supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all children, including monitoring play areas and responding to active events. Assist the teacher in implementing screening procedures, research-based curriculum, and developmentally appropriate activities aligned with Head Start standards. Support meal service, manage classroom maintenance and emergency drills, and facilitate activities for children arriving late. Maintain accurate records for assessments, IEPs, and screenings while collaborating with staff, parents, and volunteers. Complete mandatory 24 clock hours of annual professional development covering safety and child abuse protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Must pass DFPS background check
  • Must pass an annual physical
  • CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or bachelor's degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire
  • Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, parents and community resources
  • Ability to supervise pre-school children and ensure a safe environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in classroom and outdoor play areas
  • This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need restraint or redirection in order to ensure their safety or the safety of others in the environment
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Critical sensory requirements include general vision; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred
  • Preferred: A CDA credential or an associate degree in child development, early childhood education or equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children
