Job Summary
Provides instructional and supervisory support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, implements lesson plans, supervises students, and supports school operations to ensure continuity of instruction and student services. The substitute is expected to demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, sound judgment, and positive relationships with students, staff, and parents; must hold Alabama teacher certification or substitute license and clear required background checks; responsibilities include classroom supervision, following lesson plans, maintaining safe and orderly learning environments, and assisting with instructional activities and school procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Alabama Teacher Certificate; or
- Valid Alabama Substitute Teacher License
- Ability to successfully pass all required state and federal background checks in accordance with Alabama law.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and administrators.
- Ability to follow written lesson plans, schedules, and directives with minimal supervision.
- Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
