Job Summary
Report to the assigned building at least twenty minutes prior to the official school start time to receive assignments, schedules, and daily expectations. Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment by supervising students in classrooms, hallways, and assigned areas while following all District policies and safety protocols. Complete attendance, reports, and documentation, including end-of-day reports, and promptly report concerns involving student safety, health, or emergencies to administration. Substitute Aides assist teachers with student arrival and dismissal, organize classrooms, prepare instructional materials, and supervise students during lunch, recess, and field trips. Substitute Teachers review lesson plans, implement instructional activities aligned with District curriculum, manage classroom behavior, and deliver instruction at designated times. Remain on duty through the assigned workday, including approximately fifteen minutes after dismissal, and leave detailed written notes for the regular classroom teacher regarding instruction completed and student progress.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education Substitute Teacher Certificate
- Ability to successfully perform assigned duties
- Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, staff, families, and community members
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with diverse groups of people
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during stressful or emergency situations
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing assignments and priorities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures
- Ability to manage multiple tasks that may be interrupted by urgent student or staff needs
- Demonstrated commitment to student safety, well-being, and academic success
- Must regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, and occasionally run
- Must have close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to board and exit school buses
- Must be able to supervise students indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must be able to work in classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, gymnasiums, hallways, libraries, and other school environments
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Demonstrated aptitude for working with children
- Prior instructional or educational experience preferred
